to host first ever Special Olympics International
Cricket Cup Tournament
Special Olympics Bharat
has been the forerunner in the spread of Cricket
as a Sport for Special Olympics. Towards this end
a first time Asia- Pacific Cricket Tournament was
organized in 2004 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The success
of this event drew enormous interest from Special
Olympics International and after deliberation Cricket
was added to its official list of games.
The first ever Special Olympics International Cricket
Cup Tournament is scheduled to be held from the
6th to the 12th of November 2006 at the Oval grounds
in Mumbai. Twelve Cricket loving countries including
Pakistan and England have confirmed their participation
in the Tournament.

Special Olympics World Summer Games, Shanghai, China
The 2007 Special Olympics
World Summer Games will be held in Shanghai, China in October
2007. The event will mark the first time the World Summer
Games will be held in Asia. In addition to some 7,000 athletes,
Special Olympics expects the 2007 World Summer Games to
draw 40,000 volunteers, 3,500 event officials and thousands
of families, volunteers, spectators and journalists from
every continent.
Special Olympics athletes
of all ability levels will compete in 20 different Special
Olympics and Olympic-type sports: Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton,
Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Cricket, Cycling, Dragon Boat
Racing, Equestrian, Football (Soccer), Golf, Gymnastics,
Handball, Judo, Kayaking, MATP, Power lifting, Roller Skating,
Sailing, Softball, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball
During the last World Summer Games was held at Dublin, Ireland
in 2003. The Special Olympics Bharat delegation of 81 athletes
competed in 12 disciplines bringing home 110 medals, of
which 34 were Gold Medals, 36 Silver, and 40 Bronze.
For the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games India will
be fielding a 161 member delegation to compete in 12 disciplines.
